These fake pop-ups mimic legitimate Phantom updates, putting users\u2019 funds at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scammers-use-fake-update-requests-to-steal-wallet-credentials\">Scammers Use Fake Update Requests to Steal Wallet Credentials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On February 6, Web3 scam detection platform <em>Scam Sniffer<\/em> warned that attackers were connecting to real Phantom wallets and displaying pop-ups asking users to approve a bogus &#8220;update extension&#8221; signature request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If victims approve the request, they are then prompted to enter their seed phrase. Once entered, scammers gain full access to the wallet and can drain funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows a similar warning from <em>Scam Sniffer<\/em> in late January, where malicious websites mimicked Phantom\u2019s interface to trick users into entering their seed phrase for a fake connection request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-identify-and-avoid-phantom-wallet-scams\">How to Identify and Avoid Phantom Wallet Scams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To help users detect phishing attempts, <em>Scam Sniffer<\/em> provided the following security tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Check the Right-Click Function<\/strong> \u2013 Fake phishing pages often block right-clicking, while legitimate Phantom wallet windows do not.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Verify the URL<\/strong> \u2013 Genuine Phantom pop-ups display \u201cchrome-extension\u201d in the URL, something scam sites cannot replicate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check Window Behavior<\/strong> \u2013 Real Phantom pop-ups function like system windows, allowing users to minimize, maximize, and resize them. Fake ones are restricted to the browser tab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-phantom-wallet-sees-growing-adoption-despite-security-threats\">Phantom Wallet Sees Growing Adoption Despite Security Threats<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these phishing attacks, Phantom wallet continues to gain traction, driven by the rise of Solana-based memecoins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Phantom generated $470,000 in fees in the past 24 hours, surpassing Coinbase Wallet, according to <em>DeFiLlama<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On January 19, Phantom\u2019s daily revenue peaked at $3.6 million, setting a new all-time high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The platform now boasts over 10 million monthly active users and has processed more than 850 million transactions in 2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On February 6, Phantom introduced multicurrency support for 16 different fiat currencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-phantom-s-growth-and-future-plans\">Phantom\u2019s Growth and Future Plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Phantom has seen significant investment interest, securing $150 million in a Series C funding round led by Sequoia Capital and Paradigm on January 17.
