The Malta Financial Services Authority granted the PSD2 approval, allowing the crypto exchange\u2019s Malta arm to offer regulated payment services across all EU member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move strengthens Gate\u2019s position as Europe fully implements the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. With both MiCA authorization and a PSD2 license, the company can now combine crypto services with traditional financial infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-the-psd2-license-means-for-gate\">What the PSD2 License Means for Gate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The new license allows Gate to \u201cpassport\u201d its payment services throughout the European Union. In simple terms, the company can operate across borders without applying for separate approvals in each country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the PSD2 framework, Gate can now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Execute payment transactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process credit transfers and direct debits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain payment accounts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support stablecoin-based payment services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, EU rules require crypto firms that integrate stablecoins into regulated payment systems to hold either a Payment Institution or Electronic Money Institution license. By securing PSD2 approval, Gate meets this critical requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aligning-stablecoins-with-mica-rules\">Aligning Stablecoins With MiCA Rules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As MiCA takes full effect, regulators increasingly classify stablecoins as electronic money tokens. Therefore, exchanges that want to embed stablecoins into everyday payments must meet strict compliance standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gate\u2019s CEO Giovanni Cunti said the license enables the company to deliver compliant payment solutions to both retail and institutional clients across Europe. However, the firm has not announced a timeline for new products under the license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gate\u2019s global platform serves more than 49 million users. While the company did not break down its EU user base, the PSD2 approval clearly signals its commitment to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gate is not alone. Other major exchanges have also secured Malta Payment Institution licenses to support products under MiCA and PSD2.
