Ravencoin plunged to a record low Wednesday after a consensus vulnerability allowed invalid blocks onto its blockchain, putting several days of transactions at risk. The disruption also pushed major exchanges to suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals as miners worked to restore a trusted chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RVN fell to $0.002754, about 22% below its 24-hour high of $0.003529. Trading volume surged above $18 million during the selloff before easing. The token later recovered slightly to around $0.00284.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exploit has created an unusual blockchain recovery effort. Ravencoin said the first known invalid block appeared at height 4,487,776 on Aug. 7. Vulnerable nodes accepted the block, and additional invalid blocks appeared after the weakness was demonstrated on the live network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mining pools 2Miners and RavenMiner are building a competing chain from block 4,487,775, the last block before the exploit. Together, the pools control most of Ravencoin’s network hash power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If their chain becomes dominant, the network could reorganize roughly three days of blockchain history. That means transactions confirmed after the cutoff could disappear from the accepted chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The situation creates risks for users, exchanges and merchants. A payment that appeared complete could be reversed, leaving the recipient without the expected funds. Ravencoin has warned that affected transactions may not automatically return to the mempool for mining again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several exchanges have responded by restricting transfers while miners resolve the chain dispute. Upbit and Bitget suspended RVN deposits and withdrawals, while trading remained available on Upbit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ravencoin has also urged exchanges to halt deposits and withdrawals until the network stabilizes. The project has released a fix for the vulnerability, but updating software cannot erase blocks that already entered the chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident adds to Ravencoin’s security history. Attackers exploited a separate vulnerability in 2020 that resulted in the creation of roughly 31 million unauthorized RVN before the issue was contained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
