Federal agents arrested him after accompanying him on a deportation flight, according to officials familiar with the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case highlights the growing reach of U.S. authorities as they pursue alleged cryptocurrency investment fraud across international borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-alleged-crypto-investment-scheme\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Alleged Crypto Investment Scheme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Federal prosecutors accuse Zimbardi of operating a Ponzi scheme that promised investors substantial returns through cryptocurrency-related investments. Authorities allege that the scheme generated more than $165 million in losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The indictment contains 25 charges. Investigators eventually located him in Fiji, where officials arranged his deportation to the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Federal agents then took him into custody after the flight reached Los Angeles.
