Malone Lam, a 22-year-old Singaporean national, pleaded guilty to leading an international cryptocurrency racketeering conspiracy that stole and laundered more than $245 million in digital assets. The plea marks a major development in one of the largest crypto theft investigations in U.S. history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lam entered his guilty plea in federal court in Washington, D.C., to one count of participating in a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act conspiracy. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. A status hearing is scheduled for December 8, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutors said the criminal enterprise began by at least October 2023 and continued through May 2025. Members connected through online gaming platforms and operated across several U.S. states and overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group relied heavily on social engineering to target cryptocurrency holders. In some cases, conspirators allegedly used home break-ins to obtain information or devices that provided access to crypto wallets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lam, who used aliases including “Anne Hathaway,” “$$$,” and “King Greavy,” allegedly identified targets and coordinated the roles of other members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutors have linked the broader operation to multiple cryptocurrency thefts, including one involving more than 4,100 bitcoin stolen from a Washington, D.C., resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conspiracy allegedly converted stolen cryptocurrency into an extravagant lifestyle. Prosecutors said members spent the proceeds on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Law enforcement arrested Lam at a Miami rental home on September 18, 2025. His guilty plea now moves the case toward its sentencing phase while prosecutors continue pursuing other defendants tied to the alleged network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
