Security researchers first identified suspicious transfers from Duelbits-linked wallets on Sept. 24. Early estimates put the loss at about $4.2 million across Ethereum, BNB Chain and Tron. Further blockchain analysis later pushed the estimated total toward $5.9 million after additional activity involving Bitcoin and Solana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discrepancy means the final loss figure remains under investigation. Reports also differ on the number of affected networks, so the commonly cited $7 million figure has not been independently confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The stolen assets included 836 ETH, 1.62 million USDT, 97,000 USDC, 209 BNB and 192,000 TRX. Investigators also traced 8.1 BTC in related activity. Most of the assets were subsequently converted into Ether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blockchain monitors said the transfers moved funds into newly created addresses. The transaction pattern points toward compromised private-key access, although investigators have not publicly established the precise attack method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A separate blockchain security database recorded the incident as a private-key leakage event and placed the loss at about $4.9 million. It also confirmed that Duelbits took its platform offline while investigating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attackers’ decision to convert multiple tokens into ETH simplified the stolen assets into a more liquid cryptocurrency. On-chain tracking showed the funds moving toward a small number of addresses, allowing security researchers to follow the transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident highlights the risks of keeping operational cryptocurrency in hot wallets. These wallets remain connected to systems that can authorize transactions, making them more convenient than offline storage but also more exposed to credential or key compromises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
