Coinbase is expanding its push into traditional finance by introducing 24/5 trading in U.S. stocks for eligible users in the United Kingdom. The move allows UK customers to buy and sell U.S. equities during extended weekday trading hours through the same platform they use for cryptocurrency, marking another step in the company’s strategy to combine digital assets and traditional investments into a single ecosystem.
Growing Traditional Finance Offering
The rollout follows Coinbase’s recent authorization in the UK to provide investment services, enabling the company to offer equities alongside its existing cryptocurrency products. With this expansion, UK users can access U.S. stocks for extended trading sessions without switching to a separate brokerage platform. Coinbase aims to simplify investing by giving customers a unified account for both crypto and equities.
The platform has already introduced similar stock trading capabilities in the United States, where eligible customers can trade thousands of stocks and ETFs 24 hours a day, five days a week, with support for fractional investing and commission-free trading on many securities.
Competition Intensifies
The expansion reflects a broader industry trend toward longer trading hours as fintech firms and exchanges compete to provide around-the-clock market access. Investors increasingly expect the flexibility to react to earnings announcements, geopolitical developments, and macroeconomic news outside traditional market hours.
For Coinbase, adding stock trading strengthens its ambition to become an “everything exchange,” offering crypto, equities, derivatives, and eventually tokenized financial assets through a single platform. The company has previously indicated that tokenized stocks remain part of its long-term roadmap.
By bringing 24/5 U.S. stock trading to UK customers, Coinbase is broadening its appeal beyond cryptocurrency traders and positioning itself as a comprehensive investment platform in one of its most important international markets.
