A new report confirms that corporate treasuries now hold a record 840,000 BTC. While the headline is striking, the details reveal a more nuanced reality about institutional demand.
Strategy Dominates the Market
Most of this Bitcoin is concentrated in one company: Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). The firm controls about 637,000 BTC, making up nearly 76% of the total. The remaining 203,000 BTC is spread across other public and private companies.
Acquisition Pace Drops Sharply
Despite the record figure, both Strategy and other companies have drastically reduced their monthly purchases.
- In August 2025, Strategy acquired only 3,700 BTC. That’s a steep decline from the 134,000 BTC it bought in November 2024.
- Other treasury holders added just 14,800 BTC in August, far lower than earlier peaks.
This slowdown points to a cooling in institutional appetite for Bitcoin, possibly due to market sentiment shifts or tighter liquidity.
What It Means for the Market
The total corporate stash of 840,000 BTC highlights growing institutional involvement. However, the sharp reduction in new purchases suggests the explosive accumulation phase may be fading. Future activity will depend on whether companies see Bitcoin as a strategic reserve or take a more cautious approach in the face of market uncertainty.
