Emirates Set to Accept Bitcoin and Crypto Payments for Flights Starting in 2026

Published:

Emirates airline is gearing up to accept cryptocurrency payments for flight bookings and in-flight services. In a bold move signaling the mainstream adoption of digital assets, Emirates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Crypto.com. The agreement will enable travelers to use Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Crypto.com’s native CRO token via the Crypto.com Pay platform.

A Crypto-Friendly Future for Air Travel

Slated for rollout in 2026, this initiative aligns with changing consumer preferences—particularly among younger, tech-savvy travelers. According to Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, the airline aims to meet the growing demand for flexible and modern payment methods. This strategy also fits into Dubai’s broader push to become a global hub for cryptocurrency innovation.

Dubai has been laying the groundwork for years:

  • The UAE established the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in 2022.
  • Over 650 crypto firms now operate in the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
  • Crypto payments are already accepted in real estate, education, government services, and airport retail.

Regional Momentum and Global Significance

If successfully launched, Emirates will become the largest airline in the world to accept direct crypto payments. Other airlines like Latvia’s airBaltic and Japan’s Peach Aviation have already adopted similar models, but on a smaller scale.

The UAE is also seeing traction in related sectors:

  • Air Arabia uses its AE Coin stablecoin for payments.
  • Dubai Duty Free is testing out crypto transaction options.

Crypto.com plays a central role in this development. With more than 80 million users worldwide, its Crypto.com Pay solution offers a seamless way to convert crypto to fiat—making it ideal for real-world use cases like travel.

Right now, Emirates and Crypto.com are conducting feasibility studies, integrating systems, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Marketing campaigns to boost awareness and adoption are also in the pipeline. By next year, travelers can expect a phased rollout of crypto payments across Emirates’ platforms.
