Grayscale has launched its Zcash ETF on NYSE Arca, giving U.S. investors direct exchange-traded exposure to Zcash through the ticker ZCSH. The fund began trading Tuesday, August 25, following the conversion of Grayscale Zcash Trust into The Zcash ETF.
The launch marks the first U.S. ETF offering direct exposure to Zcash, a cryptocurrency known for its privacy-focused technology. Grayscale structured the product to track the value of ZEC held by the trust, less expenses and other liabilities.
The ETF carries a 2.5% annual sponsor fee. The fee accrues daily and is payable in ZEC based on the trust’s net asset value. Grayscale’s latest regulatory filing confirms the 2.5% rate.
ETF Debuts as Zcash Gains Momentum
The launch comes after a sharp move in Zcash’s market price. ZEC gained roughly 45% in the days leading up to the ETF debut, according to market data reported around the launch. The rally reflects growing investor attention toward privacy-focused digital assets.
Grayscale’s existing trust held more than $313 million in assets under management shortly before the conversion. The ETF therefore enters the market with an established pool of Zcash exposure rather than launching as an entirely new vehicle.
The conversion also completes a major structural change for the product. Grayscale renamed the trust The Zcash ETF on August 24 and registered its shares for listing on NYSE Arca.
Privacy Theme Drives Investor Interest
Grayscale has positioned ZCSH around rising demand for financial privacy as digital monitoring and artificial intelligence expand. The company expects privacy-focused assets such as Zcash to attract greater attention as financial activity becomes increasingly observable.
However, the 2.5% sponsor fee remains a significant consideration for investors. The fee is higher than the expense ratios on many mainstream cryptocurrency ETFs, meaning long-term holders will need to weigh the convenience of exchange-traded Zcash exposure against its ongoing cost.
