Mastercard Connects Stablecoins to Traditional Banking With New Global Money Platform

Mastercard has launched its Global Money Platform, connecting stablecoin balances with traditional banking services and global card payments. The October 15 announcement marks the company’s first major integration with BVNK since completing its acquisition in August 2026.

The platform combines Mastercard’s payment network with BVNK’s stablecoin infrastructure through a single application programming interface (API). Banks, fintech companies, and enterprises can use the system to manage digital assets alongside traditional currencies.

Nuvei and Marqeta are among the first companies preparing to integrate the platform. Other early participants include Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech.

Stablecoins Move Closer to Everyday Banking

Global Money Platform allows financial institutions to offer accounts that support both fiat currencies and stablecoins. Businesses can also convert between currencies, issue stablecoin-linked payment cards, and manage international transactions.

The system aims to reduce the complexity of handling payments across multiple financial networks. Instead of relying on separate providers, businesses can access several financial services through one integration.

For example, an international company could receive payments in stablecoins and convert those funds into local currency. It could then transfer money directly into suppliers’ bank accounts without managing multiple payment platforms.

Mastercard Move plays a central role in this process, providing access to more than 17 billion payment endpoints. The company expects coverage to expand beyond 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories in 2027.

BVNK Acquisition Strengthens Mastercard’s Crypto Strategy

Mastercard completed its acquisition of BVNK on August 3, strengthening its position in blockchain-based financial infrastructure. The company initially announced the transaction in March, valuing the agreement at up to $1.8 billion.

The new platform represents a significant step toward integrating that infrastructure into Mastercard’s existing payment services. It also allows businesses to spend stablecoin balances through Mastercard’s global merchant acceptance network.

Card issuing capabilities will extend across more than 130 countries, according to the company. Meanwhile, Nuvei and Marqeta will help introduce the technology to businesses seeking more flexible payment options.

Mastercard Expands Its Digital Payments Ambitions

The launch highlights growing efforts to connect blockchain-based money with established financial systems. Stablecoins offer potential advantages for cross-border payments, particularly where businesses need faster settlement and greater flexibility.

Mastercard also plans to support additional digital financial instruments, including tokenized deposits and automated commerce applications.

Global Money Platform is available through BVNK, although individual capabilities may expand over time. Its adoption could help determine how quickly stablecoins become part of mainstream banking, business payments, and everyday transactions.
