Metaplanet, often dubbed “Asia’s MicroStrategy,” has officially achieved its 2025 goal of accumulating 10,000 BTC. The Tokyo-based investment firm hit this milestone just as it launched a zero-interest bond worth $210 million—underscoring its ambitious blueprint for Bitcoin accumulation.
Strategic Milestone: 10,000 BTC Secured
On June 16, Metaplanet added 1,112 BTC to its treasury for roughly $117.2 million. This latest purchase pushed its total holdings to exactly 10,000 BTC. According to CEO Simon Gerovich, the average acquisition cost sits at approximately $94,697 per coin. At current market prices, the firm’s Bitcoin assets are valued around $947 million.
This milestone not only solidifies Metaplanet’s status as a major corporate Bitcoin holder but also aligns with its long-term accumulation strategy modeled after U.S.-based MicroStrategy.
Bold Financing: Zero-Interest Bonds and Growth Plans
To fuel further purchases, Metaplanet’s board approved a $210 million zero-interest bond issuance to the Cayman-based EVO Fund. The bonds, which mature on December 12, 2025, include an early redemption clause and are strictly designated for Bitcoin acquisitions.
This marks the firm’s 18th bond raise, building on earlier issuances of $21 million and $50 million. Combined, the total bond capital raised in 2025 stands at approximately $135.2 million. In addition, the firm’s “555 Million Plan” has brought in $5.4 billion in equity—offering a robust financial base for expansion.
Looking Ahead: 210,000 BTC Target by 2027
Metaplanet has set an aggressive roadmap: it plans to hold 30,000 BTC by the end of 2025, 100,000 by the end of 2026, and a staggering 210,000 BTC—about 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply—by the end of 2027.
Key performance indicators like the “BTC Yield” metric, which tracks Bitcoin-per-share growth, show a year-to-date increase of over 200% by mid-2025. This surge reflects the company’s effective use of capital and scaling efficiency.
Inspired by MicroStrategy, Metaplanet is blending equity and zero-interest debt to build a Bitcoin-focused balance sheet. Its strategy has garnered attention for its transparency and novel financial engineering.
By leveraging Japan’s favorable capital markets and embracing a regulated approach, Metaplanet offers institutional investors streamlined access to Bitcoin. This model could serve as a blueprint for other firms aiming to integrate digital assets into traditional finance.
