Morgan Stanley’s Bitcoin ETF Adds $50.6 Million in BTC as Inflows Hold Steady

Published:

Morgan Stanley’s spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund continued accumulating Bitcoin in September as investor demand remained resilient. The Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust, trading under the ticker MSBT, received about 641.87 BTC worth roughly $50.6 million through Coinbase Prime over a two-week period.

The steady purchases highlight growing institutional participation in the Bitcoin ETF market. On-chain data showed several transfers into wallets associated with MSBT rather than one large transaction.

September Bitcoin Accumulation

MSBT received another 51.58 BTC, valued at about $4 million, on September 12. The latest transfer brought the fund’s two-week accumulation to nearly 642 BTC.

Fund holdings reached about 8,072 BTC by September 17, according to available tracking data. That represented roughly $631 million in Bitcoin at the time.

The buying pattern also suggests continued share creation as investors add capital to the fund. However, on-chain transfers alone do not establish the identity or investment decisions of individual ETF investors.

Strong Inflows Since Launch

Morgan Stanley launched MSBT on April 8, 2026, becoming the first U.S. bank-affiliated asset manager to offer a cryptocurrency exchange-traded product. The fund tracks Bitcoin through the CoinDesk Bitcoin Benchmark 4PM NY Settlement Rate.

MSBT also entered the market with a 0.14% sponsor fee. During its first month, the fund recorded about $193.6 million in cumulative net inflows without a single day of net outflows.

By September 14, reported figures showed cumulative net inflows of about $538 million and net assets near $635 million. MSBT had recorded only one daily net outflow since its launch.

The fund’s early demand has largely come from self-directed Morgan Stanley clients. The advisor channel has not yet represented the majority of inflows, leaving the distribution of future demand uncertain.

MSBT’s performance offers a closely watched measure of how traditional financial institutions are entering the Bitcoin market. Continued inflows and Bitcoin accumulation could provide further evidence of sustained investor interest, although ETF flows can change quickly as market conditions shift.
