Solana Hits Record 5.2 Billion Transactions in August as Network Activity Surges

Published:

Solana processed 5.218 billion non-vote transactions in August, setting a new monthly record for on-chain activity. The figure marks a sharp increase from the previous record and highlights sustained demand across the blockchain’s applications.

The transaction milestone comes as Solana continues to expand its processing capacity and attract activity across decentralized finance, payments, tokenized assets and other on-chain applications. Non-vote transactions exclude validator voting activity, making the metric a closer measure of user and application activity.

Record-Breaking Network Activity

Blockworks data shows that Solana’s August transaction count surpassed the previous monthly record of roughly 4.2 billion set in July. That represents an increase of about 23% month over month.

The network also recorded several shorter-term milestones during August:

  • Solana processed about 1.32 billion non-vote transactions between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23.
  • Daily non-vote transactions reached 216 million, setting a new single-day record.
  • The network reduced its target slot time to 300 milliseconds late in August.

The figures point to sustained usage rather than a single isolated spike. Solana’s transaction activity remained elevated throughout the month as applications continued to consume available block capacity.

Capacity Upgrade Supports Growth

A major infrastructure change preceded the August surge. Solana activated the SIMD-0286 upgrade on July 29, raising the maximum compute limit per block from 60 million to 100 million compute units.

The 66% increase gave applications more room to process computational workloads within each block. Transaction activity subsequently reached new daily and monthly highs.

Solana’s ecosystem also recorded growth in other areas during August. Real-world assets on the network surpassed $4 billion, while tokenized-stock activity and several consumer applications expanded.

The record transaction count provides another measure of Solana’s growing network utilization. However, transaction volume alone does not measure economic value, revenue or profitability across the ecosystem. Its significance depends on the types of applications generating the activity and the sustainability of that demand.
