Tether’s USDT0 has launched on the Stellar network, connecting the payments-focused blockchain to more than $180 billion in USDT liquidity. The September 2 launch gives Stellar users access to a unified version of Tether’s dollar stablecoin across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
The integration targets payments, remittances, treasury operations and decentralized finance. USDT0 uses LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token standard to support cross-chain transfers without relying on traditional custodial bridges or creating separate wrapped-token pools.
Unified Liquidity Across Networks
USDT0 maintains a single supply backed 1:1 by USDT while allowing liquidity to move across supported networks. This approach aims to reduce fragmentation and make USDT easier to use across different blockchain environments.
USDT0 has facilitated more than $100 billion in value transfers since its launch in January 2025. The network now supports more than 20 blockchain ecosystems, according to the companies involved.
For Stellar, the arrival of USDT0 adds access to the stablecoin that dominates many emerging-market payment corridors. The network offers sub-cent transaction costs and transaction finality in about five seconds, supporting its focus on cross-border financial applications.
DeFi and Payments Get New Options
The launch also expands Stellar’s potential for stablecoin-based financial products. USDT0 can serve as collateral, a trading asset and a liquidity source for lending and other DeFi applications.
At launch, users can access USDT0 through several exchanges, wallets, custody providers and financial platforms. SushiSwap is among the initial DeFi integrations, while additional services are expected to join the ecosystem.
The integration could prove particularly relevant in Latin America, Africa and Asia-Pacific, where USDT already plays a major role in dollar-based digital payments and settlement.
By combining Stellar’s low-cost payment infrastructure with USDT’s broad liquidity base, USDT0 gives businesses and developers a way to move dollar liquidity across networks with fewer conversion and integration hurdles. The launch therefore strengthens Stellar’s position as infrastructure for cross-border stablecoin payments and on-chain financial services.
