U.S. Government-Linked Wallets Move $103 Million in Bitcoin and BNB

Wallets linked to the U.S. government moved about $103 million in cryptocurrency in a series of transactions, with 833.6 BTC sent to Coinbase Prime and 40,285 BNB routed to an unlabeled address. On-chain tracking data identified the transfers on Oct. 7.

Bitcoin accounted for roughly $71.6 million of the movement. The 833.6 BTC went directly to Coinbase Prime, an institutional platform that provides custody and trading services. The BNB transfer involved several transactions before reaching an unlabeled wallet and was valued at about $31.6 million.

The movements have drawn attention because transfers to exchange-linked wallets can sometimes precede sales. However, the transfers alone do not confirm that the U.S. government intends to sell the assets.

Government Holdings Remain Vast

The latest transactions represent only a small portion of the cryptocurrency linked to U.S. government wallets. On-chain data indicates that these addresses still control roughly $28 billion in digital assets.

Bitcoin makes up most of that balance, with about 324,000 BTC valued near $27.7 billion at the time of the transfers. The 833.6 BTC moved to Coinbase Prime therefore represents well below 1% of the government’s estimated Bitcoin holdings.

CoinDesk previously reported in July that government-linked wallets transferred about $288 million in seized bitcoin and ether to Coinbase Prime. That movement also raised questions about whether exchange deposits reflected custody operations or potential sales. Coinbase Prime can support both custody and trading, so an exchange transfer does not by itself establish liquidation.

BNB Transfer Adds Another Signal

The BNB movement follows a different path. The 40,285 BNB passed through multiple addresses before reaching the unlabeled wallet, making its eventual purpose less clear.

For now, the transactions provide evidence of significant government-linked wallet activity but not a confirmed change in U.S. crypto policy. Investors will likely watch the Coinbase Prime wallet and the destination holding the BNB for any subsequent transfers.

The size of the remaining government-linked portfolio also limits the immediate significance of the latest movement. Still, further transfers or confirmed sales could attract greater market attention.
