WLFI Targets Mainstream Online Payments With USD1 and Mesh Partnership

World Liberty Financial is moving to expand USD1 stablecoin payments into mainstream online commerce through a new partnership with payment infrastructure provider Mesh.

The announcement came Wednesday during a stablecoin panel at TOKEN2049 in Singapore. WLFI CEO Zach Witkoff and co-founder Zak Folkman joined Mesh co-founder and CEO Bam Azizi for the discussion. TOKEN2049’s official agenda lists the session as “The Next Era of Stablecoin Payments.”

The partnership could give USD1 holders a broader way to spend the dollar-pegged token. Mesh plans to make USD1 available across its merchant network during the fourth quarter.

Expanding beyond crypto-native users

Folkman said WLFI is also working to bring the technology to some of the largest Web2 businesses. However, he did not identify the companies involved or provide specific launch dates.

The strategy marks another step in WLFI’s effort to turn USD1 from a crypto trading asset into a broader payments instrument. The company says USD1 is redeemable one-to-one for U.S. dollars and backed by cash, U.S. government money market funds and other cash equivalents.

WLFI has also been expanding USD1 into other financial applications. Reuters reported in February that the company’s World Liberty Markets lending platform had recorded $320 million in lending and more than $200 million in borrowing.

Payments push adds to USD1 expansion

Bloomberg reported in June that USD1 had become a major source of revenue for the Trump family-backed venture. The stablecoin’s growth has also benefited from its presence on Binance, where much of its supply is held.

For online merchants, stablecoins can offer faster settlement and potentially lower transaction costs than traditional payment rails. WLFI is positioning USD1 around those use cases, while Mesh provides the infrastructure needed to connect the token with merchants.

The success of the initiative will depend on how quickly major businesses adopt USD1 and whether consumers begin using stablecoins for everyday purchases. For now, the Mesh rollout represents WLFI’s clearest effort to bring USD1 closer to mainstream digital commerce.
