X Money Launches Nationwide for U.S. Premium Users With 6% APY and X Card Rewards

Published:

Elon Musk’s X has officially expanded X Money beyond its invite-only beta, making the financial platform available to U.S. X Premium and Premium+ subscribers. The launch marks a significant step in Musk’s long-standing vision of transforming X into an “everything app” that combines social networking with financial services.

Growing beyond simple peer-to-peer payments, X Money introduces deposit accounts, instant transfers, a Visa-powered debit card, and high-yield savings features directly within the X app. The service is rolling out starting this week to eligible subscribers across the United States after several months of limited testing.

Key Features for Subscribers

The new platform includes several banking-style features designed to compete with digital payment apps and online financial services. Users can access:

  • Free instant transfers between X users
  • Up to 6% annual percentage yield on eligible balances
  • 3% cashback on eligible purchases made with the X Card
  • Early direct deposit, potentially up to two days before payday
  • Wire transfers, bill payments, checks, and ATM access
  • Apple Wallet support with a virtual Visa debit card
  • An optional personalized metal X Card

Premium+ subscribers automatically qualify for the advertised yield, while Premium subscribers must satisfy direct deposit requirements to unlock the maximum APY. Deposit accounts are provided through Cross River Bank, with eligible funds receiving FDIC insurance under the program’s terms.

Competition in Digital Finance

The launch positions X Money as a direct competitor to services such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and traditional digital banking platforms. Rather than requiring users to leave the social network, X aims to let customers send money, receive paychecks, spend with a debit card, and earn interest from within a single application.

Industry observers view the rollout as one of Musk’s most ambitious efforts to expand X beyond social media. However, the service may also attract increased regulatory attention as it scales, particularly because of its aggressive interest rate and broader financial ambitions.

The initial rollout is limited to U.S. Premium and Premium+ subscribers, with broader expansion expected over time as X continues refining the platform.
