Franklin Templeton’s New Bitcoin ETFs Will Turn Stock Dividends Into BTC

Franklin Templeton is preparing to introduce two Bitcoin-focused exchange-traded funds that combine traditional U.S. stocks with cryptocurrency exposure. The funds will initially allocate 95% to equities and 5% to Bitcoin, automatically reinvesting stock dividends into additional Bitcoin exposure.

Regulatory filings dated October 22, 2026, identify October 27 as the effective date for the funds’ registration. However, Franklin Templeton has not confirmed that trading will begin that day.

Two Bitcoin ETFs Target Nasdaq Listing

The asset manager has registered two products for listing on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Both will follow indexes designed to combine equity investments with systematic Bitcoin accumulation.

The Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF, trading under the proposed ticker FBEQ, will track an index of major U.S. companies. Meanwhile, the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF, ticker FIBT, will focus on innovation-oriented businesses.

The funds will carry annual management fees of 0.09% and 0.19%, respectively. Their investment structures aim to provide stock market exposure while gradually building Bitcoin allocations through dividend reinvestment.

How Dividend Reinvestment Builds Bitcoin Exposure

Unlike traditional dividend reinvestment plans, which purchase additional shares of dividend-paying companies, these ETFs will direct equity dividends toward Bitcoin exposure.

Regular and special dividends will be reinvested according to index rules, increasing Bitcoin’s portfolio weighting over time. However, the strategy includes safeguards designed to prevent cryptocurrency exposure from dominating the funds.

During quarterly rebalancing, Bitcoin allocations exceeding 5% will be reduced to 4.5%. Additionally, allocations that exceed 20% between scheduled reviews will trigger a reduction to 4.5% under specified index rules.

The funds may obtain Bitcoin exposure through exchange-traded products, futures, options, and other permitted instruments rather than holding cryptocurrency directly.

What the Launch Means for Investors

The proposed products represent another step toward integrating Bitcoin into conventional investment strategies. Instead of requiring investors to purchase cryptocurrency separately, the funds will incorporate Bitcoin exposure within diversified equity portfolios.

However, investors will remain exposed to cryptocurrency price volatility alongside traditional stock market risks. Dividend reinvestment also does not guarantee higher returns, particularly during prolonged Bitcoin market downturns.

The October 27 registration effective date marks an important regulatory milestone, but investors must await confirmation of the actual trading launch.
