The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a pilot blockchain initiative designed to modernize land record management and strengthen the security of property ownership data. The project, known as Mee Bhoomi Blockchain, aims to create a tamper resistant digital system that integrates land records maintained by multiple government departments into a single, trusted platform.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the pilot, which will initially operate across seven mandals in seven districts. Officials said the project represents a significant step toward improving transparency in land administration while reducing fraud, ownership disputes, and administrative delays.
Building a Single Source of Truth
The blockchain pilot combines records from the revenue, survey, and registration departments, which have traditionally maintained separate databases. Although Andhra Pradesh has already digitized land records through its Webland platform, differences between departmental records have continued to create inconsistencies and legal disputes.
Key objectives of the initiative include:
- Creating an immutable record of land ownership and transactions.
- Reducing opportunities for document tampering and fraudulent transfers.
- Improving coordination among government departments.
- Speeding up verification and property-related citizen services.
By using blockchain technology, every authorized update to a land record will be permanently recorded, creating a transparent audit trail while preserving the history of ownership changes.
Pilot May Shape Broader Digital Governance
The pilot forms part of Andhra Pradesh’s wider digital governance strategy, which has increasingly focused on modernizing public services through emerging technologies. Officials expect the blockchain platform to improve confidence in land transactions by ensuring that records remain consistent across departments and resistant to unauthorized alterations.
If the initial rollout proves successful, the government is expected to evaluate expanding the blockchain-based system to additional districts across the state. The initiative also complements ongoing efforts to streamline land administration and reduce long standing property disputes through technology-driven reforms.
